NIGHTS ON THE SLOPES
article of 12.11.2025
WHO MAKES THE SNOW MAGIC HAPPEN?
To ensure everything run perfectly, it takes more than 250 people every day across the entire Lech Zürs Oberlech ski area. From planning in the office to colleagues out on the slopes, handling grooming and safety. Luckily, our 50-strong team is made up of 90% permanent staff whom we can rely on, especially during peak season.
WHEN DOES SNOW GROOMERS NIGHT STARTS?
Operations are ongoing so their night shift actually starts during the day because they have to check weather conditions. Is it windy, snowy, or clear? After we close operations around 5:00 p.m., the groomers take off.
DO YOU HAVE BOTH GOOD AND BAD NIGHTS ON THE MOUNTAIN?
Absolutely. The biggest challenge is warm days. When the snow is slushy and the skiers have pushed it down the mountain, the entire mass has to be pushed back up. Groomers may well be out until midnight. The best days are cold days with fresh snow. Our drivers get going around 5 a.m. and are rewarded with incomparable sunrises.
WHO SIGNALS WHEN THE SLOPES ARE SAFE?
This is the job of the ski patrol. At dawn, our colleagues ski the entire area. They check signs and safety nets. Only once they give the green light to the operations manager does the ski day begin. We take our responsibilities seriously so our guests can ski the mountain without a care in the world.
